  • FAQ | Manufacturing And Design Engineers NZ | Ses Engineering Services

Here you will find the answer to many of our frequenly asked questions on manufacturing and design. MANUFACTURING & DESIGN FAQ Do you quote before proceeding? Absolutely. We can provide an estimate or quote before beginning work, or work on an hourly-rate basis, which will be discussed and agreed before commencement of the job. Can you supply completed parts? Yes. Our workshop is a “1-stop-shop” for machining, sheetmetal fabrication, welding, pressing and polishing: we can not only design, machine, fabricate and test your widget, we can build the box to mount it in. What is a CNC machine? CNC stands for Computer Numeric Control and is a Lathe (makes round objects like a piston) or Mill (makes irregular-shaped objects like hex nuts and machined cavities): we have both in our workshop. The advantages to a CNC machine tool are absolute repeatability and precision – the last part made is as accurate as the first – and high production rates. What is sheetmetal fabrication? We have a dedicated sheet metal shop (working in thin steel sheets to make items like pot sides, bench tops and filter bodies) that handles quantities from 1-offs to high volume production. What other facilities do you have? We have a full welding shop, capable of TIG (stainless steel and aluminium welding), MIG (Mild Steel) and arc, along with a press shop for sheet steel objects. We finish our products either by beadblasting, mechanical polishing or electro-polishing, providing a high gloss finish on stainless steel and non-ferrous metal parts. What is Presswork? Pressing lets us shape or mould flat sheet into complex shapes or “punch” holes or cavities into existing products. We can purpose-build a die to suit your design or use your tooling. Our press shop has deep-draw, high pressure (up to 200 Tonne) and rapid punch presses. Do you make products in other materials? Yes. Although Stainless Steel is our speciality, our workshop regularly processes Plastics, Mild Steel, Aluminium and more exotic materials. Will you build from an existing product? The short answer is “that depends!” If the product is yours and/or is free of copyright/patent issues, absolutely. We pride ourselves on our integrity, confidentiality and our trusted relationship with our customers. Will my product design remain confidential? Definitely. We regularly work on confidential designs, prototypes and production runs for both small and large companies and pride ourselves on our confidentiality and our trusted relationship with our customers. We are happy to provide and sign a non-disclosure agreement if required.

  • Se-Tech 2-32 | Dispensers | Singh's Engineering Services

The Series 2-32 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser has 1-¼” BSP (“32mm”) connections and is suitable for water flows up to 6000 litres per hour at pressures from a “gravity feed” 10 PSI to “hill country” 210 PSI (0.7-14.3 bar). SE-TECH DISPENSERS See also: DISPENSER OVERVIEW DISPENSER IDENTIFICATION SE-TECH 1-32 SE-TECH 2-32 SE-TECH 2-50 SERVICING YOUR DISPENSER DISPENSER FAQ SE-TECH 2-32 The Series 2-32 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser has 1-¼” BSP (“32mm”) connections and is suitable for water flows up to 6000 litres per hour at pressures from a “gravity feed” 10 PSI to “hill country” 210 PSI (0.7-14.3 bar). As an indication of capacity, we expect the Series 2-32 dispenser would be suitable for a farm of up to 600 milking head. In production since 2007, the Series 2-32 was developed following requests for a dispenser that could handle poor farm water conditions, such as water containing higher particulate levels (such as manganese, pumice or silt) or hard water (generally, laden with iron). As a consequence, the Series 2 series of dispensers have very wide, flat seals, running on the outside of the piston assembly, in order to provide maximum seal area to minimise overall wear, whilst “wiping” the running surface clean of contaminants and extending life. Customer feedback during testing resulted in a doubling of suction throughput on the Series 2 range vs. the Series 1 units. An addition rate (“suction” rate) of up to 2% by volume can normally be achieved with a Series 2-32 dispenser. The dispenser operates only on water flow – no power source is required. This makes for minimal installation requirements, as the 2-32 can be easily installed anywhere there is a water line and a vertical, rigid wall. Note: Due to the very wide running seals in the Dispenser, rigidity and alignment are both essential on installation in order to maximise seal and operation life. Whilst longer running life will be achieved with cleaner supply water and dispensate (i.e. the less “grinding paste” the machine processes, the longer it will last), this 2-32 dispenser is designed to tolerate and work with less-than-ideal water supplies and/or more abrasive additive materials such as zinc or magnesium chloride. Of course, the less “grinding paste” the machine processes, the less wear will occur and so running costs will be minimised. The Series 2-32 dispenser is shown with the optional pipework manifold. This provides an inline coarse (mesh) filter, a non-return valve, isolation and bypass valves, along with quick-release couplings between the manifold and the dispenser proper. This makes it simple to install the dispenser, then consequently bypass the Se-Tech and/or remove the dispenser for servicing, without interrupting the properties’ water supply. Over 98% of all Series 2 Se-Tech dispensers are sold with the optional pipework manifold. We recommend an annual service for all Se-Tech dispensers: our busiest service period is found when farms are dried off and the requirement for animal health supplements is at a minimum. Due to the wide running seals in the 2-32 dispenser, alignment on reassembly is critical: as a consequence, the Series 2 dispensers require a return to our manufacturing facility for servicing. Our full service facilities offer service turnaround times from overnight to less than three hours with a booking: please call us on 07 8493 108 or email us to confirm a service booking. The Series 2-32 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser installation, setup and operation manual can be found here (PDF format). Frequently asked questions regarding operation can be found here . Should you have any questions regarding the most appropriate size or model of dispenser for your installation, please email, call or drop in to see us. As with all Se-Tech products, Singh’s Engineering Services proudly designs, manufactures and services all Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispensers in Hamilton, New Zealand.

  • Se-Tech 2-50 | Dispensers | Singh's Engineering Services

The Series 2-50 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser has 2” BSP (“50mm”) connections and is suitable for water flows up to 13000 litres per hour at pressures from a “gravity feed” 10 PSI to “hill country” 210 PSI (0.7-14.3 bar). SE-TECH DISPENSERS See also: DISPENSER OVERVIEW DISPENSER IDENTIFICATION SE-TECH 1-32 SE-TECH 2-32 SE-TECH 2-50 SERVICING YOUR DISPENSER DISPENSER FAQ SE-TECH 2-50 The Series 2-50 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser has 2” BSP (“50mm”) connections and is suitable for water flows up to 13000 litres per hour at pressures from a “gravity feed” 10 PSI to “hill country” 210 PSI (0.7-14.3 bar). As an indication of capacity, we expect the Series 2-50 dispenser would be suitable for a farm of up to 1250 milking head. In production since 2005, the Series 2-50 was developed following requests for a high-capacity dispenser that could handle poor farm water conditions, such as water containing higher particulate levels (such as manganese, pumice or silt) or hard water (generally, laden with iron). As a consequence, the Series 2 dispensers have very wide, flat seals, running on the outside of the piston assembly, in order to provide maximum seal area to minimise overall wear, whilst “wiping” the running surface clean of contaminants and extending life. Addition rates (“suction” rate) of up to 2% (dependant on dispensate viscosity and density) by volume can normally be achieved with a Series 2-50 dispenser. The dispenser operates only on water flow – no power source is required. This makes for minimal installation requirements, as the 2-50 can be easily installed anywhere there is a water line and a vertical, rigid wall. Note: Due to the very wide running seals in the Dispenser, rigidity and alignment are both essential on installation in order to maximise seal and operation life. Whilst longer running life will be achieved with cleaner supply water and dispensate (i.e. the less “grinding paste” the machine processes, the longer it will last), the 2-50 dispenser is designed to tolerate and work with less-than-ideal water supplies and/or more abrasive additive materials such as zinc or magnesium chloride. Of course, the less “grinding paste” the machine processes, the less wear will occur and so running costs will be minimised. The dispenser is shown with the optional pipework manifold and an integral mounting bracket is additionally available. The manifold provides an inline coarse (mesh) filter, a non-return valve, isolation and bypass valves, along with quick-release couplings between the manifold and the dispenser proper. The integral welded stainless steel bracket both holds the manifold in alignment to the dispenser, and simplifies installation of the assembly, providing a flat, rigid surface to the mounting face. This combination makes it simple to install the dispenser, then subsequently bypass the Se-Tech and/or remove the dispenser for servicing, without interrupting the properties’ water supply. Over 95% of all Series 2-50 Se-Tech dispensers are sold with the optional pipework manifold and mounting bracket. We recommend an annual service for all Se-Tech dispensers: our busiest service period is found when farms are dried off and the requirement for animal health supplements is at a minimum. Due to the wide running seals and significant piston weight in the 2-50 dispenser, alignment on reassembly is critical: as a consequence, the Series 2 dispensers require a return to our manufacturing facility for servicing. Our full service facilities offer service turnaround times from overnight to less than three hours with a booking: please call us on 07 8493 108 or email us to confirm a service booking. The Series 2-50 Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispenser installation, setup and operation manual can be found here (PDF format). Frequently asked questions regarding operation can be found here . As with all Se-Tech products, Singh’s Engineering Services proudly designs, manufactures and services all Se-Tech Inline Liquid Dispensers in Hamilton, New Zealand.

All Se-Tech dispensers are primarily identified by the size of their inlets and outlets: SE-TECH DISPENSERS See also: DISPENSER OVERVIEW DISPENSER IDENTIFICATION SE-TECH 1-32 SE-TECH 2-32 SE-TECH 2-50 SERVICING YOUR DISPENSER DISPENSER FAQ IDENTIFY YOUR DISPENSER All Se-Tech dispensers are primarily identified by the size of their inlets and outlets: The 50mm units have 2” tri-clover (quick-release) couplings on their Stainless Steel endcaps The 32mm units have 1-¼ ” BSP threaded holes in their endcaps – and will usually have 1-¼ ” BSP tri-clover (quick-release) couplings screwed into them The 19mm unit (no longer in production) had ¾” BSP threaded holes in the top and the bottom of its endcaps For all Se-Tech dispensers, pre-booked services can be carried out same-day, or in less than 3 hours while you wait. CURRENT MODELS SERIES 1-32 The Series 1-32 Se-Tech has blue mounting plates (where it is screwed to the wall), black or (on very early models, gray) endcaps with (as above) 1-¼ ” BSP threaded holes in the side of its endcaps. Dispensate suction throughput is changed by winding the knurled knob at the bottom of the unit up and down. Parts and Servicing are available for this unit. SERIES 2-32 The Series 2-32 Se-Tech has blue mounting plates (where it is screwed to the wall), with longer black endcaps than the Series 1 and with 1-¼ ” BSP threaded holes in the side of its endcaps. Dispensate suction throughput is changed via the 5-position “gearshift” at the bottom of the unit. Servicing for this unit is available at our manufacturing facility. SERIES 2-50 The Series 2-50 Se-Tech has Stainless Steel (silver in colour) mounting plates (where it is screwed to the wall) and endcaps, with 2” tri-clover couplings on the side of its endcaps. Dispensate suction throughput is changed via the 5-position “gearshift” at the bottom of the unit. Servicing for this unit is available at our manufacturing facility. SUPERSEDED MODELS The Se-Tech 19mm dispenser was sold from the late 1980’s until the early 2000’s. It is distinguished by blue mounting plates (where it is screwed to the wall), thinner endcaps than the 32mm units with water inlet and outlet in the bottom and top of the caps, rather than on the side as in all other Se-Tech dispensers. The Series 1-50 Se-Tech was sold from the late 1990’s until the early 2000’s. It has Stainless Steel (silver in colour) mounting plates (where it is screwed to the wall) and endcaps, with 2” tri-clover couplings on the side of its endcaps (a very few early models had 2” BSP sockets rather than the tri-clover couplings). Dispensate suction throughput is changed by winding the knurled knob at the bottom of the unit up and down. All parts are stocked and Servicing remains available for both superseded dispenser models below.

  • Water flow indicators | Dispensers | Singh's Engineering Services

Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are used primarily in the horticultural, farming and industrial sectors. They show water flow (and can be used for most fluids) in buried or closed pipelines, above or below ground. WATER FLOW INDICATORS Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are used primarily in the horticultural, farming and industrial sectors. They show water flow (and can be used for most fluids) in buried or closed pipelines, above or below ground. In the rural sector, Water Flow Indicators are primarily used as a quick and simple way of finding water leaks. The Water Flow Indicator (WFI) is designed as an infrastructure item, and is inserted inline with a pipeline-an indicator wand is mounted to the exterior of the WFI. In farming or horticultural sectors the wand will be above ground. In industry, shorter wands are generally used (custom wand lengths down to 150mm long are available at no additional cost). When water flows through the pipe, a reflective fluorescent indicator becomes visible. The more flow through the pipe, the more indication – making identification simple of where water is flowing, in what direction and at approximately how much flow. In farming, if there are no animals at the end of a pipeline spur, there should be no water being consumed. If there is water flow in that pipeline spur, chances are there’s a leak. HOW IT WORKS When water flows, an aerofoil lifts inside the flow indicator. This has a magnet on it, which repels a magnet on the outside of the indicator. This opposed magnet is part of the wand – as it changes height, an indicator at the other end of the wand (above ground in farm installations) shows the quantity of flow through the pipe. The use of magnets allows a completely sealed indicator unit: there are no glands or seals, so the WFI is leak proof. Having a Stainless Steel body, the WFI is rated for any pressure the pipeline it is inserted into can handle. In practice, it has been tested to and runs at 300 PSI without problem. Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are available in 32mm (1-¼ ” BSP) and 50 mm (2″ BSP) pipeline sizes. The 32mm version can be fitted to smaller pipeline sizes: although it will show flow down to “garden hose” size, the bottom limit for accurate indication is around ¾” BSP pipe or hose. INDICATOR SHOWING FLOW AND NO-FLOW STATES WAND LENGTH The standard wand is 1.13 metres high. Custom shorter wand lengths can be supplied upon request and at no additional charge: please enquire should you have a need for these. No good idea should be published without protection – as a consequence, Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are protected under Patent No. 532692. As with all Se-Tech products, Singh’s Engineering Services proudly designs and manufactures the Water Flow Indicators in Hamilton, New Zealand. See also: CHLORINATORS SE-TECH DISPENSERS

If you’re having issues, we recommend checking our Frequently Asked Questions. For best performance and reliability, we recommend your Se-Tech Dispenser is serviced annually. SE-TECH DISPENSERS See also: DISPENSER OVERVIEW DISPENSER IDENTIFICATION SE-TECH 1-32 SE-TECH 2-32 SE-TECH 2-50 SERVICING YOUR DISPENSER DISPENSER FAQ SERVICING YOUR DISPENSER Se-Tech Dispenser Servicing and Support If you’re having issues, we recommend checking our Frequently Asked Questions. For best performance and reliability, we recommend your Se-Tech Dispenser is serviced annually. With an appointment we can turn your unit around in 24 hours or, by prior arrangement, we offer a 2 ½ hour turn around should you want to drop it off/pick it up in the same day. To book a service Please phone 07 849 3108 or use or use our online booking form. Please remember to include any additional instructions or requirements such as additional zinc passivators (is your present one in good repair?), suction hose or filter, or requests for a particular drop-off, pickup or service time. Packaging your Se-Tech Dispenser It is important the dispenser is packaged for protection when shipping by courier. Experience has shown that units can get dropped or “stacked on” in transit and that more rigid packaging than the average “cardboard box” is really necessary in order to ensure the dispenser reaches its destination in one piece and undamaged. If packaging yourself, we strongly recommend multiple layers of padding with “FRAGILE” clearly marked on the packaging outer. An alternative to disposable packaging, the Se-Tech Dispenser Transport Case is designed to protect dispensers in transit. Developed specifically to minimise shipping costs (both in weight and in volume), the case is made of light, rigid plastic, fits all current models and is fitted with easy to grab handles. If ordered at the same time as a service (either when booking or via a note with the dispenser), we offer a 10% discount on the Dispenser Transport Case. Dispatching your Se-Tech Dispenser Send your unit (minus the manifold or pipe work) to: Singh’s Engineering Services, 66-68 Mahana Road, Te Rapa, Hamilton Please ensure you include your phone number and contact name (and farm/company name, if appropriate) with your dispenser. Servicing Dispenser services are performed in our purpose-built service department, located within the Singh’s Engineering Services workshop at Mahana Road. As the dispensers are manufactured in the same building, parts are always available. In a regular service we will: Dismantle the unit Clean and check all running parts for corrosion and wear – replace or repair as appropriate Replace all worn seals Re-assemble and align the piston assembly Re-assemble the body and Check mounting plate, cylinder and end plate alignment Test the reassembled Dispenser at maximum and minimum rated flows and pressure ratings, for linearity of operation and proportionality of suction pickup. Service Reminders are sent to end user customers when your Se-Tech Dispenser is due for a service. If you are not receiving reminders please contact us. Parts Support All parts are available for Series 1-32 (and superseded) Se-Tech Dispensers: these units are designed for ‘on-site’ repair and all parts can be fitted/exchanged by the owner on-site. Seal kits containing all seals are available direct from us or your local Se-Tech reseller. We recommend that dispensers are periodically returned to Singh’s Engineering Services for a service, where we’ll check for wear, corrosion and the alignment of running and body components. These faults, if left uncorrected, will affect accelerating wear and the performance and efficiency of your dispenser. There are no user-serviceable parts in the Series 2-32 and Series 2-50 Se-Tech dispensers: the units must be returned to Singh’s Engineering Services for servicing.
