  • About | Manufacturing And Design Engineers NZ | Singh's Engineering Services

ABOUT US Singh’s Engineering Services (SES) started in the garden shed in the back of Hurb and Karen Singh’s house in 1979. After operating out of the shed for 18 months Hurb had run out of room, so the business was moved to its first production facility in Mahana Road, Te Rapa. Singh’s Engineering was originally an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for a number of large NZ and overseas-based companies, producing milking cups and other stainless steel products supporting the Dairy industry. One of the products SES manufactured as an OEM was the Carlisle dispenser. Whilst popular – there was little else available on the market at the time – this dispenser had reliability problems and was discontinued. Singh’s Engineering continued to support the machines in use and through this, saw the need for a reliable, New Zealand made dispenser. Singh’s Engineering’s first dispenser: the 19mm unit, was developed and first marketed in the late 1980’s, remaining in production for approximately 15 years. Singh’s Engineering continues to support the owners of these units with parts and service. In 1990, a purpose-built production facility was completed in Mahana Road, Te Rapa, Hamilton, and the company has resided there since. In 1993, production was started on a 32mm dispenser (1-¼” inlets and outlets), which eventually became the Series 1-32. This has remained in continuous production (with ongoing development) and is still recognisable today as our base model. In 1994, the Se-Tech (“Singh’s Engineering Technology”) brand was launched, as the parent brand for our in-house goods such as Inline Liquid Dispensers, Water Flow Indicators and Magnetic Particle Traps. Hurb and the team spend a lot of time talking with our customers and from that interaction came innovation: for example, as the size of NZ farms grew, a larger the dispenser was necessary and so a 50mm dispenser (2” BSP inlets and outlets) was developed, with production beginning in 2003. As time continued, so did developments. The original Series 1 Dispenser remains in wide use. The Series 2 Dispensers were developed to handle more harsh water conditions, for example water which contains higher particulate levels such as manganese, pumice or silt. In response to customer feedback, the Series 2 has a higher dose rate than the Series 1, making it suitable for a wider variety of installations. The latest development in the line of Se-Tech products is the . Based on the 2-32 Se-tech dispenser, it doses extremely low levels of chlorine into a water supply, ensuring safe, effective, low-cost water disinfection. • FAQ | Manufacturing And Design Engineers NZ | Ses Engineering Services

MANUFACTURING & DESIGN FAQ Do you quote before proceeding? Absolutely. We can provide an estimate or quote before beginning work, or work on an hourly-rate basis, which will be discussed and agreed before commencement of the job. Will you build from an existing product? The short answer is “that depends!” If the product is yours and/or is free of copyright/patent issues, absolutely. We pride ourselves on our integrity, confidentiality and our trusted relationship with our customers. Do you make products in other materials? Yes. Although Stainless Steel is our speciality, our workshop regularly processes Plastics, Mild Steel, Aluminium and more exotic materials. What is Presswork? Pressing lets us shape or mould flat sheet into complex shapes or “punch” holes or cavities into existing products. We can purpose-build a die to suit your design or use your tooling. Our press shop has deep-draw, high pressure (up to 200 Tonne) and rapid punch presses. What other facilities do you have? We have a full welding shop, capable of TIG (stainless steel and aluminium welding), MIG (Mild Steel) and arc, along with a press shop for sheet steel objects. We finish our products either by beadblasting, mechanical polishing or electro-polishing, providing a high gloss finish on stainless steel and non-ferrous metal parts. What is sheetmetal fabrication? We have a dedicated sheet metal shop (working in thin steel sheets to make items like pot sides, bench tops and filter bodies) that handles quantities from 1-offs to high volume production. What is a CNC machine? CNC stands for Computer Numeric Control and is a Lathe (makes round objects like a piston) or Mill (makes irregular-shaped objects like hex nuts and machined cavities): we have both in our workshop. The advantages to a CNC machine tool are absolute repeatability and precision – the last part made is as accurate as the first – and high production rates. Can you supply completed parts? Yes. Our workshop is a “1-stop-shop” for machining, sheetmetal fabrication, welding, pressing and polishing: we can not only design, machine, fabricate and test your widget, we can build the box to mount it in. Will my product design remain confidential? Definitely. We regularly work on confidential designs, prototypes and production runs for both small and large companies and pride ourselves on our confidentiality and our trusted relationship with our customers. We are happy to provide and sign a non-disclosure agreement if required.

  • Water flow indicators | Dispensers | Singh's Engineering Services

WATER FLOW INDICATORS Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are used primarily in the horticultural, farming and industrial sectors. They show water flow (and can be used for most fluids) in buried or closed pipelines, above or below ground. In the rural sector, Water Flow Indicators are primarily used as a quick and simple way of finding water leaks. The Water Flow Indicator (WFI) is designed as an infrastructure item, and is inserted inline with a pipeline-an indicator wand is mounted to the exterior of the WFI. In farming or horticultural sectors the wand will be above ground. In industry, shorter wands are generally used (custom wand lengths down to 150mm long are available at no additional cost). When water flows through the pipe, a reflective fluorescent indicator becomes visible. The more flow through the pipe, the more indication – making identification simple of where water is flowing, in what direction and at approximately how much flow. In farming, if there are no animals at the end of a pipeline spur, there should be no water being consumed. If there is water flow in that pipeline spur, chances are there’s a leak. HOW IT WORKS When water flows, an aerofoil lifts inside the flow indicator. This has a magnet on it, which repels a magnet on the outside of the indicator. This opposed magnet is part of the wand – as it changes height, an indicator at the other end of the wand (above ground in farm installations) shows the quantity of flow through the pipe. The use of magnets allows a completely sealed indicator unit: there are no glands or seals, so the WFI is leak proof. Having a Stainless Steel body, the WFI is rated for any pressure the pipeline it is inserted into can handle. In practice, it has been tested to and runs at 300 PSI without problem. Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are available in 32mm (1-¼ ” BSP) and 50 mm (2″ BSP) pipeline sizes. The 32mm version can be fitted to smaller pipeline sizes: although it will show flow down to “garden hose” size, the bottom limit for accurate indication is around ¾” BSP pipe or hose. INDICATOR SHOWING FLOW AND NO-FLOW STATES WAND LENGTH The standard wand is 1.13 metres high. Custom shorter wand lengths can be supplied upon request and at no additional charge: please enquire should you have a need for these. No good idea should be published without protection – as a consequence, Se-Tech Water Flow Indicators are protected under Patent No. 532692. As with all Se-Tech products, Singh’s Engineering Services proudly designs and manufactures the Water Flow Indicators in Hamilton, New Zealand.
